My writing faves ...

Naturally I'm a fan of other writers ... some crime, some not.

We all have writers we love more than others. Here are a few of mine ...

Iain Banks

Not the sci-fi stuff. But the rest of it was extraordinary. Especially the debut - The Wasp Factory. What a ridiculous concept. How did he come up with this? Complicity, Whit, plenty of other great titles.

Christopher Brookmyre

Some great Scottish crime noir. Parlabane and De Xavier are great characters you pull for. Gritty and funny. Particularly like "Be My Enemy" - an outward bound weekend that goes bonkers.

Kate Atkinson

Love both the wonderful worlds she creates in "Life After Life" and "Behind The Scenes ..." but also Jackson Brodie and his detective series. So much brilliant humour. (And breaking all the rules about using parentheses in fiction).

Malcolm Pryce

What an extraordinary world he creates in West Wales. Louie Knight, dodgy druids, scary schoolteachers and the zestful Calamity Jane. Dip into it and enjoy.

Danny King

Very questionable characters. Questionable motives and life choices. But fabulous humour. In "The Burglar Diaries" just read the opening lines of the chapter about someone called Terry Butcher. I dare you not to laugh out loud.
